The road I have traveled to become a healer has been patient and varied, full of twists and unexpected turns. I received my Ph.D. in Chemistry from UC Berkeley in 2008 and served as a research fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology until 2010. It was during this time that I began to explore holistic approaches to healing the physical and in particular the emotional body. I was so awestruck by the power of yoga and transpersonal therapies to restore balance in my own life, that during my career in the biotech industry, I began to pursue trainings in yoga and Depth Hypnosis so that I could bring this healing to others. |
My approach to counseling is rooted in a deep understanding of the coping mechanisms and behavioral adaptations that arise from the difficult circumstances that we encounter in our childhoods and throughout life. The compassion and patience that I bring to my clients is a reflection of the knowledge I have gathered throughout my own journey through my own dark places. Happiness is possible, and requires only a sincere and heartfelt wish to rise out of suffering.
My yoga classes emphasize proper alignment and body awareness to address the physical body, as well as breathing and mindfulness to connect to the energetic or spiritual body. It is through my yoga practice that I learned self-compassion and found a deep respect for the wisdom that is held within the body. It is also the place where I learned not to take life so seriously!
During my time at Berkeley, after many experiences with the Western-psychological approach to addressing behavioral and mental imbalance, I encountered a different take on healing that uses guided meditation and somatics (body-based healing) to address long-held and deep-rooted trauma. Depth Hypnosis is a client-empowering form of therapy that draws from several ancient healing traditions to treat a wide range of physical and emotional imbalances. The rapid and foundational shifts that I experienced with this approach inspired me to become a practitioner through the Foundation of the Sacred Stream in 2014 so that I could offer this much-needed healing to others.
Through the years, I have continued to explore the dance between body, spirit, and earth. I have extensive training in Somatic Experiencing, and weave this approach and wisdom into my Depth Hypnosis work. This is especially useful for clients who prefer to work with the body and nervous system directly, and who may not be as interested in the meditative work of Depth Hypnosis.
As part of this dance, I have a deep appreciation for earth-based traditions and Shamanism. Depth Hypnosis is intimately interwoven with Shamanism, and in 2022 I completed my training in Applied Shamanism and offer Shamanic counseling and healings to clients who are more interested in cultivating their own practice of Shamanic journeying and strengthening the connection to their own inner wisdom through this powerful approach. In recent years, the use of plant medicines and psychedelics to afford deep and lasting personal growth has become increasingly popular. I hold a certificate in plant medicine integration and can assist clients who are preparing for, or struggling to integrate their work with these powerful teachers.
My fascination with science and the natural world combined with my belief in holistic health contribute to a discerning and pragmatic approach to everything I do. I believe that we are here to be mystified, to tinker and explore. I take a patient and exploratory approach to my work, helping you find balance and peace as you walk through life.
